Best JavaScript data grid libraries in 2026

The short answer: for analysis features (grouping, pivoting, Excel export) on large data, AG Grid Enterprise is the reference, and Syncfusion or Kendo UI if you want a whole component suite from one vendor. For a free grid with grouping and XLSX, use Tabulator. In React with MUI, use MUI X. When users expect a spreadsheet, use Handsontable. For a fast, themeable, accessible table with sorting, filters, editing and server loading that works in any stack for a one-time price, use REALM Pro's ui-kit-data-grid. If you want to build the UI yourself, TanStack Table gives you the logic only.

Facts below were checked in October 2026 against each vendor's own pricing page, docs and npm package, linked in each section. Where a vendor does not publish something, we leave it out.

How to choose

Four questions narrow the list quickly:

  1. Do you need grouping, aggregation or pivoting in the grid? If yes, you are choosing between AG Grid Enterprise, MUI X Premium, RevoGrid Pro, Tabulator (grouping and calculations, no pivot) and the commercial suites.
  2. Where does the data live? Up to around 100,000 rows, most grids handle it in the browser. Beyond that, check how the grid asks your server for rows, and whether sorting and filtering go to the server too.
  3. Which framework? MUI X is React only. Most others ship wrappers. A web component, such as REALM Pro's grid, works anywhere a tag works.
  4. How do you want to pay? Free (MIT), per developer per year, per developer perpetual, or once for a kit.

The libraries

1. AG Grid: best for analysis on large data

AG Grid 36.2 is the grid most enterprise teams compare against. Community (MIT) gives you a fast client-side grid with CSV export and undo/redo. Enterprise adds the server-side row model, row grouping, aggregation, pivoting, tree data, master/detail, Excel and PDF export, range selection and clipboard, and integrated charts with the Enterprise Bundle. Licences are perpetual per developer with a year of updates; online purchase covers internal apps for up to 10 developers, and customer-facing apps go through sales.

Pick it when users slice and summarise data inside the grid, or when you need server-side grouping over millions of rows.

2. REALM Pro data grid: best for app tables in any stack, paid once

ui-kit-data-grid is part of REALM Pro. It renders only the visible rows and stays smooth with 100,000 rows in the browser. With src, it requests blocks of rows from your server as people scroll, sending sort, filters, search text, offset and limit. It has multi-column sorting, per-column filters (text, range, value list), quick search, resizable, reorderable, pinnable and hideable columns, inline editing with a cancellable celledit event, row selection that submits with a <form>, and CSV export of the current view. It follows the ARIA grid pattern with full keyboard support, and takes its look from your design tokens, including dark mode.

It has no grouping, aggregation, pivoting, tree data, Excel export or clipboard. REALM Pro is in early access and REALM is in alpha.

Pick it when you need a solid, accessible table for admin screens or back offices, want it to match your design system, and would rather pay $149 once for the grid, scheduler, charts and the rest of the kit than a yearly seat per developer.

3. Handsontable: best when users expect a spreadsheet

Handsontable 18.1 looks and behaves like a spreadsheet: formulas through HyperFormula, merged cells, comments, cell validation, undo/redo, and copy and paste with Excel and Google Sheets. It targets WCAG 2.2 A and AA and publishes a conformance report. Excel export needs ExcelJS as a peer dependency. It is commercial, priced per developer by quote; the free licence key is for non-commercial use only.

Pick it when your users will type into the grid as they would in Excel. For a spreadsheet at a one-time price, REALM Pro also includes ui-kit-spreadsheet.

4. Tabulator: best free grid with grouping and XLSX

Tabulator is MIT, has no dependencies, and is at 6.7 on npm. It includes virtual rendering, row grouping, tree data, column calculations, clipboard, Ajax loading with remote pagination, and XLSX, CSV and ODS import plus XLSX export. It is a plain JavaScript library with guides for React, Vue and Angular rather than official wrappers.

Pick it when you need grouping or Excel export and have no budget, and you are fine styling it yourself.

5. RevoGrid: best open-core option for very large grids

RevoGrid has an MIT core with row and column virtualisation, editing, range selection and tree data. Pro Lite adds Excel export, formulas, merged cells and charts; Pro Advanced adds pivoting, aggregation and drill-down. Pro is an annual subscription per developer. It ships for JavaScript, React, Vue, Angular and Svelte.

Pick it when you want AG Grid's open-core model at a lower yearly price.

6. MUI X Data Grid: best for React apps on MUI

MUI X 9.16 is React only. The MIT edition includes virtualisation, CSV and print export and a server-side data source. Pro adds tree data, master/detail and lazy loading; Premium adds grouping, aggregation, pivoting and Excel export. Annual and perpetual licence models are both offered.

Pick it when your app already uses MUI and React.

7. Syncfusion Grid: best inside a full component suite

Syncfusion's JavaScript grid has virtualisation, grouping, aggregates, master/detail, and Excel, PDF and CSV export, for JavaScript, React, Angular, Vue and Blazor. The Grid SDK is $959 per developer per year. A free community licence covers companies under $1 million in revenue with five or fewer developers and ten or fewer employees. Its own accessibility page rates WCAG 2.2 support as "Intermediate". DevExtreme and Kendo UI offer a similar package at similar yearly prices.

Pick it when you want grids, charts, schedulers and support contracts from one vendor.

8. TanStack Table: best headless option

TanStack Table 9.3 is MIT and headless. It provides sorting, filtering, faceting, grouping, aggregation, pinning and selection as logic, with adapters for many frameworks, and leaves markup, styles, virtualisation (via TanStack Virtual) and accessibility to you. The vendor quotes about 25 KB minified and Brotli-compressed for the full package.

Pick it when you have a design system and the time to build the table UI yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest JavaScript data grid? Vendors do not publish comparable benchmarks, so test with your own data. All grids on this list virtualise rows; AG Grid, RevoGrid and Handsontable also virtualise columns, which matters for very wide tables. Which data grid is free for commercial use? Tabulator, TanStack Table, AG Grid Community, RevoGrid's core and MUI X Community are MIT. Handsontable's free key is for non-commercial use only. Syncfusion's community licence is free for qualifying small companies. Is there a data grid web component? Yes. REALM Pro's ui-kit-data-grid is a custom element that works without a framework or build step. Handsontable added Shadow DOM support in 18.1.1. Do I need a data grid or a spreadsheet? A grid shows records, one per row, with sorting and filtering. A spreadsheet adds formulas, cell references and free-form cells. If users write formulas, choose a spreadsheet.
